After a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the way you sit is an important part of your recovery. Your surgeon and aftercare team may recommend using a BBL pillow to help minimize direct pressure on your buttocks while your body heals.
Evelyn Izquierdo, Certified Aftercare Specialist at bŏdze, works closely with our surgical patients throughout the recovery process. One question she hears often is simple: Am I sitting on my BBL pillow correctly?
Here are a few important tips from Evelyn to help you get your positioning right.
Start With a Firm Surface
Where you sit matters just as much as how you position your pillow.
Evelyn recommends using your BBL pillow on a firm surface rather than a soft chair or couch. On a softer surface, your body can sink into the cushion, potentially allowing your buttocks to make contact with the surface beneath you.
A firm chair provides better support and makes it easier to maintain the intended position.
Position Your BBL Pillow Correctly
One of the most common mistakes is placing the BBL pillow too close to the knees.
Your pillow should support the appropriate area beneath your upper legs rather than sitting far forward toward your knees. If the pillow is too close to your knees and you feel like you’re struggling to maintain your balance, Evelyn recommends adjusting it closer to your buttocks.
At the same time, the pillow should not sit directly against your incision. Proper placement can help you stay supported without unnecessarily irritating the incision area.
Because every patient’s anatomy, procedure, and incision placement can be different, your surgical team’s specific instructions should always come first.
How to Use a BBL Pillow in the Car
The same basic positioning applies when you’re riding in a car.
Evelyn recommends positioning your BBL pillow as you would when sitting in a firm chair. For additional support, bring a regular pillow from home, fold it in half, and position it behind your lower back.
This added support can make it easier to maintain the proper sitting position while you’re in the vehicle.
How Long Should You Use a BBL Pillow?
In the video, Evelyn advises bŏdze patients to use their BBL pillow whenever they are sitting during the first six weeks of recovery.
However, recovery instructions can vary based on your procedure and your surgeon’s recommendations. Always follow the post-operative instructions provided specifically to you by your surgical team.
